Lawlor to be released from Mountjoy today

Dublin west TD Liam Lawlor will be released from Mountjoy prison later today after serving a second seven-day sentence for failing to comply with the Flood Tribunal.

The High Court ordered Mr Lawlor to serve the second term after his continued failure to submit documents and files being sought by tribunal lawyers.

The Flood Tribunal, which is investigating planning issues, has been trying to obtain information about Mr Lawlor’s business dealings in Ireland and abroad for more than a year.

The independent TD, a former member of Fianna Fáil, has handed over thousands of files and records, but the High Court ruled that he is still withholding information valuable to the tribunal’s inquiries.
