Elderly woman dies in house fire

An elderly woman has perished in a house fire in Co Monaghan today.

The fire broke out around 2am this morning in Scotshouse, just a few miles outside Clones town.

The woman was seventy-nine years old.

She was thought to have been asleep in her home in the Co Monaghan village when the fire started.

Neighbours raised the alarm and firemen from Monaghan and Clones attended the blaze.

This tragedy is said to have shocked the small village.
