Councillors to get first ever salaries

Ireland’s councillors are expected to receive payments of up to €16,500 shortly as part of measures introduced by the Government two years ago.

The payments are the first ever salaries given to hundreds of local authority members and will be back-dated to May 2000, when they were first introduced.
