Europe’s new currency will not only become legal tender in the 12 eurozone nations tonight, it will also become a daily fact in former colonial outposts and small independent nations.

The Vatican, San Marino and Andorra will abandon the lira and franc in favour of the euro, while Guyana in South America, Guadeloupe and Marinique in the Caribbean, islands along the Mozambique channel in Africa and territories off the Canadian state of Newfoundland will also adopt the new currency.
