Co Galway PD councillor dies

The death has taken place in Tuam, Co Galway, of Councillor Joe Burke, a prominent member of the Progressive Democrat Party in Connacht.

Mr Burke was heavily involved in the formation of the party in 1985 after the split from Fianna Fail.

The Tanaiste, Mary Harney, described Councillor Burke as an excellent standard bearer for the party in the West of Ireland.
