The bodies of the refugees, believed to be Romanian, had been found inside a freight container near Wexford.

The container had arrived in the port of Waterford earlier today before being transported to the Drinagh Business Park.

Five other refugees who were also inside the container have been taken to hospital, where one of them is understood to be in a serious condition.

The human cargo was discovered in Drinagh Business Park, about two miles outside Wexford, after a lorry driver transporting the container heard noises coming from inside it.

The lorry driver who discovered the bodies has been treated for shock.

Gardai have yet to establish the identities of the refugees.
