Man pleads guilty to manslaughter

A 51-year-old Dubliner has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the death of his girlfriend two years ago.

Forty-three-year-old Catherine Mullen was strangled in October 1999 in the flat she shared with the accused in Fatima Mansions.

Francis Cahill was charged with murdering Ms Mullen, but the DPP accepted the manslaughter plea in court today.

Mr Cahill was remanded on bail until sentencing in February.
