Alleged Real IRA leader to go on trial in June
The Special Criminal Court has fixed June 4 as the preliminary date for the trial of 51-year-old Michael McKevitt, the alleged leader of the Real IRA.
Mr McKevitt’s lawyer objected to the date, saying he has not had enough time to collate all the information and evidence handed over by the state.
However, the presiding judge fixed the date regardless and said the defence can apply for a review next month.
Mr McKevitt, from Beech Park, Blackrock, Dundalk, Co Louth, is charged with directing the activities of the Real IRA and could face life imprisonment if found guilty.
