Opposition attacks Govt failure on healthcare for the poor

Angry scenes erupted in the Dail this morning after the opposition attacked the Government over its delay in extending the medical card scheme.

In its health strategy published this week, the Government promised to give medical cards to an extra 200,000 citizens, but yesterday, Health Minister Micheal Martin admitted that the plan will not begin until 2003.
