Tanaiste to intervene in beet price dispute
The Tanaiste is to intervene in the row between farmers and Greencore on Monday.
Mary Harney announced her plans to become involved as settlement talks between the Irish Farmers' Association and Greencore have broken down after four days. The talks were aimed at solving the dispute over beet prices.
Government-appointed mediator, Paddy Teahon, has said he will be available for further talks next week if they could serve any useful purpose.
The IFA leader, Tom Parlon, said that he regretted that Greencore did not avail of the mediation process to find a solution. Beet farmers will meet in Cahir, Co Tipperary, tomorrow afternoon to consider options availble to them.
