Police in the North have revealed that the car at the centre of a security alert near Armagh this morning contained around 200lbs of fully-primed home-made explosives.

Police in the North have revealed that the car at the centre of a security alert near Armagh this morning contained around 200lbs of fully-primed home-made explosives.

The bomb was discovered after police stopped a car outside Killylea early this morning.

The surrounding area was immediately evacuated and the driver of the car was arrested.

Police have said they believe dissident republicans were responsible for the device.

A controlled explosion was carried out this afternoon.

The interception came just 24 hours after police uncovered weapons and explosives in Lurgan, Co Armagh.

Dissident republicans were also blamed for that haul.
