Disabled Federation accuses Taoiseach of reneging
Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has been accused this morning of reneging on pre-election promises by the Disabled Federation.
The DFI says promises made by the Taoiseach when in opposition to address the problems of handicapped people, have not been honoured.
The federation says three quarters of households headed by a disabled person now live below the poverty line.
John Dolan of the federation says the Taoiseach has allowed the booming economy to "by-pass disabled people who are being dragged down while so many others are doing so well and this is a basic violation of expectation that we had for the current Government".
