‘Man died after Thai beach hotel fall’ - Officials
An Irish man died at a popular beach resort in Thailand after a fall which followed a two week illness, it emerged today.
Corkman Brian Santry, 25, was found unconscious in his hotel in Koh Samui and taken to hospital where he later died, the Thai Public Health Ministry said.
Police said it was understood the man fell in the bathroom of the unnamed hotel in the south of the country shortly before midnight on Sunday.
His girlfriend told officials that Mr Santry had been ill for two weeks before the accident.
The nationality of his girlfriend was also unknown.
Meanwhile, two Irish men were reportedly killed in a motorcycle accident in the Philippines today.
The friends, from Co Limerick, died in the accident on the island where they had both been living and working.
They were believed to be 27-year-old Sean Grace from Pallas Green and 25-year-old Kieran Cribben from Adare.
Mr Grace was killed instantly in the crash, the circumstances of which are still unclear.
Mr Cribben was rushed to hospital but died from his injuries. He had been working as an engineer with Siemens on the island.
A spokesman for the Foreign Office said they had been informed of an Irish fatality in Thailand, but were unable to give further details until the next of kin had been informed.
The spokesman said there were no details of the incident in the Philippines but they were liaising with consulate officials.
