Irish Sugar has announced that it is closing temporarily its two plants in counties Cork and Carlow because of blockades by protesting farmers.

The company had previously threatened to close its plants over the dispute with farmers and claims the Irish Farmers' Association (IFA) is misrepresenting the situation.
