Gardai name Clare victim

The man who died following an attack at a nightclub in Ennis has been named by gardai.

He was 20-year-old Alan O’Donnell, from Cusheen, who was taken to Ennis Hospital with head injuries after the assault in the early hours of Monday morning at a nightclub in the town.

He was transferred to Cork University Hospital where he died earlier today, gardai said.

A post mortem examination will now be carried out at Limerick Regional Hospital by assistant state pathologist Marie Cassidy.

A 27-year-old man who was arrested and questioned about the assault was released from custody without charge in Ennis yesterday, a garda spokeswoman said.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions, she added.
