North's new police force to be named next month
The British Government has announced that the RUC will be renamed The Police Service of Northern Ireland on November 4.
The 19-member Policing Board, which Sinn Fein has refused to join, will receive its powers on the same day.
So far, 308 people have been recruited to the new force and they will begin their training next month. The recruits are divided evenly between Protestants and Catholics.
