This year’s budget must reflect the slowdown in the Irish economy, according to Social Welfare Minister Dermot Ahern.

This year’s budget must reflect the slowdown in the Irish economy, according to Social Welfare Minister Dermot Ahern.

Mr Ahern has been hearing pre-budget submissions from groups representing social welfare recipients.

Most of them are calling for social welfare payments to be benchmarked at around 30% of the average wage.
