The Minister for Defence has said that there is no reason to believe that Ireland is a direct target for international terrorist attacks.

Minister Michael Smith says that emergency plans have been put into place in the unlikely event of an attack.

Speaking at the Fianna Fail Ard Fheis, Minister Smith said that Ireland was not likely to be targeted by terrorist groups despite the government’s decision to allow US fighter jets to land in Ireland and to use Irish airspace.
