Teachers vote to end voluntary work
ASTI members have voted to withdraw from voluntary supervision and substitution work.
Just over half of the ASTI's 17,500 strong membership voted in the ballot.
55% voted in favour of the action, 45% against.
The ASTI's 180-member central executive council will meet in Dublin tomorrow to consider the implications of the ballot.
The executive has come in for criticism following its decision not to allow its 17,500 members to vote on whether to accept the Government's offer.
Earlier, the executive of the national teachers's union, the INTO, decided to recommend acceptance of the Government's offer of £27 per hour for supervision and substitution duties.
INTO members will now be balloted on the issue.
