Party head to be elected by Greens

The Irish Green Party will change its structure today as it elects the first

party leader later today.

Up until now, the party had refused to elect a party head because they preferred to project a more rounded less structured party format to their voters.

However, at a meeting earlier this year, it was decided to change the old policy and adopt a party leader.

There are three candidates taking part in the contest, which is being held in Kilkenny, including the Dublin North TD, Trevor Sergeant. Deputy Sergeant is the favourite to obtain the post after he received the support of his fellow Dail Deputy, John Gormley.
