Two people, including a teenage girl, have been killed in separate accidents on Irish roads within 24 hours.

The 13-year-old girl died following a road accident in Co Louth.

She was knocked down and killed at Drumullagh in Omeath at around 8.30pm last night.

The girl was rushed to Daisy Hill Hospital in Dundalk but she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The victim's name has not yet been released.

Meanwhile, gardai in Co Wexford are appealing for witnesses to a fatal hit-and- run accident in New Ross.

A 23-year-old man died after he was struck by a car on Mary Street in the town at around 3am on Friday morning.

The car failed to stop.

Anyone who noticed a car driving in that area around the time of the accident is asked to call the gardai in Wexford on (051) 421204.
