Fine Gael has called for plans to construct a National Stadium to be scrapped and funds to be put into sport at grassroots level throughout the country instead.

The party’s policy director, Richard Bruton TD, said: “Fine Gael is committed to spending £500m or about £10m per county to provide local sports facilities.
