Garda arrested for alleged rape in Tenerife

A Garda has been arrested in connection with the alleged rape and assault of a woman in the holiday resort of Tenerife.

It's understood the Garda, who's in his twenties, was arrested on Sunday in the resort of Playa de las Americas.

The victim, who is thought to be Irish, is understood to have suffered a number of injuries in the attack, including a broken jaw.

Garda headquarters is confirming that they have been informed by the Spanish authorities that a serving member has been arrested and detained in relation to the alleged sexual assault.
