Man arrested over Ballycastle car bomb

The RUC has arrested a man in connection with the loyalist car bomb that was planted in Ballycastle, Co Antrim while thousands of tourists and locals were attending the annual Auld Lammas Fair.

The fully primed incendiary device was defused before it could detonate, but detectives have said it would certainly have caused death if it exploded.

The Red Hand Defenders, a cover-name used by the UDA and the LVF, claimed responsibility for the failed attack.

However, security sources said yesterday that they believe the UVF was responsible.
