Pope John Paul II has officially appointed 30 new cardinals to the leadership of the Roman Catholic Church.

Detectives hunting terrorists who abandoned a car bomb at one of Northern Ireland's biggest street festivals, charged a man in connection with the planned attack tonight.

The RUC has arrested a man in connection with the loyalist car bomb that was planted in Ballycastle, Co Antrim while thousands of tourists and locals were attending the annual Auld Lammas Fair.
