More IT lay offs announced

More than 50 more IT workers are to lose their jobs because of restructuring plans at two separate firms.

Bournes Electronics in Cork plans to lay off 25 staff following the transfer of part of its production to Costa Rica.

Technology group Cardbase, which has operations in Dublin and Belfast, also plans to let 28 employees go.

In addition, Volex Ireland, a telecommunications equipment maker in Castlebar, Co Mayo, has warned its 650-strong workforce to expect redundancies in the near future.
