Policing proposals deadline approaches

David Trimble’s Ulster Unionists were today under pressure to give their verdict on the British Government’s new policing proposals after moderate nationalists backed the plans.

With the Northern Ireland parties facing a noon deadline set by Northern Secretary John Reid to announce if they will nominate members to the board which will oversee RUC reform, UUP chiefs were weighing up their decision.
