Experts investigate Cork fire
Experts from the Technical Bureau at Garda headquarters in Dublin have been carrying out investigations into the cause of a fire that broke out in the Cork City Sunbeam business park this morning.
Garda believe the fire may have been deliberately started. Experts were called in after the fire gutted Key Tec Ltd, a plastics firm that employs 75 people.
Garda are looking at the possibility that vandals entered the premises through an unlocked door and started the fire after activating a blow torch.
It is estimated over a million pounds of damage has been done to the facility and also some minor smoke damage occurred in a nearby forklift company.
All 75 employees of Key Tec now face an uncertain future. It is not known whether the facility will be rebuilt.
Meanwhile, there have been calls for the security measures at the Sunbeam industrial park to be reviewed.
