Reid suspends Northern Ireland Assembly

Northern Secretary John Reid has suspended the Northern Assembly following the failure of all the pro-agreement parties to endorse the British-Irish document aimed at saving the Good Friday Agreement.

Speaking at a press conference in Belfast, Dr Reid said he took the decision because to not do so would have plunged the North into new elections and probably an irreversible collapse of the political institutions.
