N4 stretch is nation's most dangerous road

The most dangerous accident black-spot on the nation's road network has been named by Gardai following a weekend of carnage which left eight people dead.

Three people died in a single accident at the black-spot on the main Galway-Dublin road between Mother Hubbards and Leinster Bridge.

A total of eight people in three accidents have lost their lives on this stretch of road in the last 10 months.

Superintendent Tom Murphy of the Garda Traffic Policy Unit says the stretch of road in question is treacherous.

He says many accidents can be put down to road rage and aggressive driving.

He warned: "If you encounter this type of aggressive behaviour on our roads, do not engage the aggressor because the chances are you are going to become involved in a road rage incident. Note the car's number, and report the incident to the Garda Siochana, and I can assure you that it will be thoroughly investigated."
