Banks to give two month's notice of branch closures

Banks and building societies will have to give customers two month's notice and reasons why they are to close individual branches under a new voluntary code of practice adopted by the financial sector.

The move is intended to placate communities angry at the closure of branches and sub-offices in rural areas.
