Fire in Waterford under investigation

Four people, including one child, have been hospitalised in Waterford after a fire in a city centre shop in the town.

Gardai are describing the fire as suspicious and have launched an investigation into the incident.

The alarm was raised when two Guards noticed smoke coming from the premises on O’Connell St at about 5.15am this morning.

Another 15 people were evacuated from the building but the injuries to those who required hospitalisation are not believed to be serious.
