Irish tourists face delays because of bus strike

The Irish Travel Agents Association has announced that it remains hopeful

that the chaos facing holiday makers that are heading for the Balearic Islands

will soon be over.

A flight has just left Dublin Airport for La Palma, one of the airports that service the islands, having been delayed for over 12 hours.

Tourists are being delayed as a result of a coach drivers strike which has crippled the transport system on the islands.

The strike is believed to be over low rates of pay with the drivers reported

to be asking for a pay rise of 3 per cent.

Unions representing the drivers and coach owners are expected to meet with each other later today to discuss how the issue can be resolved without any more delays being reached.

The President of the ITAA says that is in the interests of both sides to resolve

the issue quickly during the busiest time of the year for the sunny resort.
