Parades Commission 'will safeguard marching tradition'

The Parades Commission has said it is pledged to safeguard the parading tradition in the North.

In a statement today aimed at calming Orange concerns about the erosion of marching rights, it said it would do all in its power to secure the future of parades.

However, it added that such a future would have to be viewed by all citizens as "fair and respectable".

Commission chairman Tony Holland in his annual report, said the issue is about "shared space".
