Blair: Good Friday Agreement only way forward
British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, is due to meet delegates from the DUP at Downing Street later.
Asked whether Mr Blair would be telling the DUP that there was no prospect of renegotiating the Agreement, the spokesman stressed: ‘‘The Government believes that the Good Friday Agreement is the only viable way forward.’’
The Prime Minister’s official spokesman stressed later that Mr Blair remained ‘‘very closely involved’’ in the process.
Mr Blair recognised that the DUP, whose leaders he was meeting at No 10 today, represented a substantial body of opinion in Northern Ireland, but also that the majority of people there supported the Good Friday Agreement.
