Minister Woods addresses school dropouts

The Minister for Education, Dr Michael Woods has launched an action plan to prevent school dropouts.

Over 12,000 students leave school before their leaving certificate examinations and over 800 of that figure never attend secondary school.

Dr Woods says that the National Education Welfare Board will monitor school attendance and will assist children at risk of leaving early or those who experience social difficulties either in or outside of school.
