Kitt to present anti-slavery plan in Geneva
Ireland is to take the lead in banning modern-day slavery at a crunch meeting of the International Labour Organisation in Geneva today.
Trocaire has backed the Government's recommendations for an anti-slavery plan, which will be put to the special world conference by the Minister for Labour, Tom Kitt.
Government officials have been lobbying the 174 countries in attendance and so far, 28 have agreed to back the four-year strategy.
It is estimated that there are 27 million modern-day slaves worldwide.
