Byrne notes consumers' concerns over meat market
EU Consumer Affairs Commissioner David Byrne has said this afternoon that there must be greater vigilance regarding food safety in Europe.
The Commissioner made his comments at the launch of a debate on agriculture and food at Dublin Castle this afternoon.
Commissioner Byrne said that confidence among consumers has been damaged because of problems with foot-and-mouth and BSE, adding that the challenge now is to find a way of improving standards.
