Gardai in Co Cork have arrested six teenagers who escaped from detention centres in Dublin and Tipperary yesterday.

The six were detained in Mallow after an hour-long chase.

Gardai first attempted to stop the youths in Cork city, but they drove off in a stolen van with three other youths, who were also arrested when the van was eventually stopped in Mallow.

The three, one of whom is understood to be just 13 years old, were on the run from Oberstown House detention centre in north Co Dublin and Ferry House detention centre in Clonmel, Co Tipperary.

Gardai have since released two youths, into the custody of their parents, who were arrested along with the escapees.
