Gardai investigate Waterford hit-and-run

Gardai in Waterford are investigating a hit-and-run accident in Waterford City last night.

A car carrying two people was stopped at traffic lights at the junction of the Ballybeg road and the Cork road in the city just after 10.30pm.

A second car appeared to skid and hit the rear of the car causing it to shunt forward and spin before crashing.

A 21-year-old female passenger in the car died, while the male driver is seriously injured.

Two people in the offending vehicle abandoned their car and fled on foot.
