More travel disruption as train strike continues

The inter-union dispute at Iarnrod Eireann continues today with further disruption to some of the country’s railway routes.

Commuters who had intended travelling between Dublin and Sligo are being hit today with the cancellation of all trains along that route.

But it is not all bad news for passengers travelling westwards as the Intercity services between Dublin, Westport and Ballina will operate with bus transfers from Athlone to Westport and Ballina.

Commuter trains servicing Dublin Connolly to and from Longford at 6.10am and 5.15pm have been cancelled but all Maynooth services are expected to run normally.

Efforts by the ATGWU to extend their representation at Irish Rail to locomotive drivers are currently the subject of procedures within the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.

A meeting will take place today at congress to discuss the dispute and it will be attended by the ATGWU and the two recognised drivers unions SIPTU and the NBRU.

Yesterday the Taoiseach called on them to end their strike saying it is causing unnecessary disruption to the public.
