Second day of questioning for Commissioner Byrne
The Garda Commissioner Pat Byrne said the decision to use firearms is left up to the individual armed members of his force.
Commissioner Byrne is again answering questions to the Dail sub-committee inquirying into the shooting death of John Carthy at Abbeylara in Co Longford last year.
He said the image of a sniper waiting for an order to open fire does not hold true.
Commissioner Byrne says in hindsight a solicitor should have been brought to talk to John Carthy during the seige, however he does not believe it would have altered the outcome.
