Robinson to stay on in UN post

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mary Robinson, is set to reverse her decision to resign from her Geneva-based job when her term ends in September.

Mrs Robinson indicated some weeks ago that she would be stepping down and cited bureaucracy and lack of resources as two of the reasons.

However, following talks with the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, the former Irish president is believed to have applied for a one-year extension to her contract.
