Ahern warns of racism's divisive potential
The Taoiseach has said racism poses a threat, which if unchallenged, could undermine the very fabric of our society.
In a statement to mark International Day against Racism, Mr Ahern said restated the government's opposition to the manifestation of racism in this country.
Referring to the country's experience of emigration and division on this island, he said the Irish should have a well-developed sense of justice and equality and an aversion to any prejudices.
He added that today Ireland should express its determination to bring about a country free of racist attitudes and bigotry and eager to embrace cultural diversity.
