Education Minister Michael Woods has confirmed that he will place newspaper advertisements next week seeking the recruitment of exam supervisors to replace striking teachers.

The industrial action has been discussed by the cabinet, but there is no sign of any fresh peace efforts.

Dr Woods has also insisted that the government's contingency plans will ensure the holding of the Junior and Leaving Cert exams this summer.
