Former Justice Minister Ray Burke has told the Flood Tribunal that RTE massaged its figures when looking for transmission fees from Century Radio.

Former Justice Minister Ray Burke has told the Flood Tribunal that RTE massaged its figures when looking for transmission fees from Century Radio.

The independent station was awarded its National Broadcasting licence in 1989 and approached RTE about obtaining a nationwide signal.

The state broadcaster said they would agree to transmit the station for a £1.14m fee.

Mr Burke said the price was excessive and had been "clipped out of the air". Some time later, RTE finally lowered its charge to £692,000.

Ray Burke is currently being questioned about the circumstances surrounding this decision to lower its transmission fees by almost half.
