Gilligan lawyers claim 'glaring omissions' in State case
Lawyers for John Gilligan have told the Special Criminal Court that there are glaring omissions and serious questions to be asked about the garda investigation into the Veronica Guerin murder.
Barrister Michael O'Higgins described chief State supergrass Russell Warren as a "despicable liar who shaped his evidence to suit the gardai and who in all probability transposed the events of one day and substituted them for another".
He told the three judge panel that if they did not "find the four corners of Warren's evidence credible", it must be dismissed in its entirety.
The defence submission is expected to last two days.
