Anti-smoking legislation on the way
The strongest ever anti-smoking measures have just been announced by the Health Minister Michael Martin to mark national no smoking day.
The Minister has stated that he has the Government's approval for the most comprehensive anti-smoking legislation yet.
A list of measures have been planned to tackle the growing problem of tobacco smoking, especially among young people.
Mr Martin yesterday got the green light to introduce legislation.
All advertising of tobacco products will be banned, including sponsorship of sporting events.
There will be a register of tobacco retailers. The Minister also plans to ban the sale of packs of 10 cigarettes, and self-service vending machines.
