Garda hit by car at checkpoint

A garda has been injured after being hit by a car, which failed to stop at a checkpoint that was set-up because of the foot and mouth scare.

The incident occurred in Co Monaghan at half past four this morning at Drumacon near Castleblaney.

A beige BMW passed through the checkpoint from the south before turning back and striking a female garda who was on duty.

The garda suffered leg and hip injuries and has been taken to Monaghan General hospital. The car involved in the incident failed to stop.
