The army is finalising plans to reinforce surveillance of border areas, with round-the-clock patrols set to be deployed to help gardai enforce the Department of Agriculture ban on imports from the North.

The army is finalising plans to reinforce surveillance of border areas, with round-the-clock patrols set to be deployed to help gardai enforce the Department of Agriculture ban on imports from the North.

Troops will monitor border crossings stretching from Co Donegal to Co Louth and will remain in place for as long as the threat to livestock exists.
